Karachi: Sindh High Court SHC has restrained the provincial government from appointing project director PG of Rural Road Construction Project other than officer belonging to Works and Services WS Department.
The petitioners said that Japan had agreed to provide assistance for Rural Road Construction Project-II Sindh to construct 500km road in 10 districts of the province. They said that Japanese Assisted Rural project had mandated that project director would be appointed to implement the project objectives in efficient manner and director would be an officer from works and services department.
The petitioners stated that Works and Services Department gave advertisement in various newspapers, calling applications for the post of project director. It was submitted that Works and Services has set eligibility condition for the post of director that officer from works and service department cannot be appointed as project director and fixed the age limit up to 65 years.
They said that fixation of age limit up to 65 years was illegal and against service rules and regulations. They said that act of respondents not appointing officer eligible for the post of director was illegal and was attempt to appoint unqualified persons for the post.
A division bench also declared that no person shall be appointed as project director, who is more than 60 years old.
