SHC seeks report about number of notaries public

Karachi: The Sind High Court SHC on Thursday directed registrar of SHC to call report from the secretary home department containing total number of notaries public operating in district courts to whom home department has issued licenses for attestation and acknowledgement of documents and freewill contracts.

Headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam, the division bench was seized with the petition of Sughra, who moved court to recover her daughter, Misbah Urooj about 14yearsold, went missing since October 18. 2012. It was stated that missing girl has contracted freewill marriage to Ali Ahmed.

Investigation officer Syed Ayaz Hussain, Sharae Faisal police station stated that police has visited the residence address showed in Nikah Nama but couple was not available that place.

The court observed that it had noted that these matters are coming up regularly as notaries public were not completing legal formalities. The court directed its registrar to put up the matter and procure report regarding total numbers of the oath commissioners appointed in each district and validity of oath license.

It also directed registrar to call report from homes secretary Sind as total list of notary public available and to examine mechanism of monitoring to notaries public to ensure that CNIC numbers of the deponent, proper thumb impression and proper postal address are mentioned on any document.

The court also directed concerned SHO to make all possible efforts for production of the missing girl.
