Karachi: Secretary Sindh Olympic Association SOA on Wednesday said that the elections held by another group on April 7 for the same SOA body were bogus and therefore the newly formed body of SOA has no significance.
SOA President Wasim Hashmi and Secretary Ahmed Ali Rajput talked to media on Wednesday to brief about their stance on the prevailing scenario of Sindh Olympic Association.
Ahmed Ali said that the SOA’s legal body already existed when another group conducted the bogus elections.
“SOA is affiliated with POA and POA itself is recognized and affiliated with Olympics Council of Asia OCA and International Olympic Council IOC. IOC doesn’t recognize the interim committee of POA, who sanctioned the bogus elections of SOA. According to IOC Charter, the international body only recognizes elected National Olympic Associations. So there is no way that the present setup of SOA could be replaced by another group,” he explained.
He said that the so called interim committee of POA put weight behind few people, having vested interest, who conducted the elections.
Ahmed also said that only five genuine associations out of the 39 associations of Sindh took part in the bogus elections. “All the other people, who voted in the bogus elections, were themselves not genuine to vote.”
“We have 33 associations with us and our elections were held last year. So there is no possibility that a parallel organization could be put in place when there already exists a genuine body,” he stressed.
