Sports: Cricket: Pak women beat Thailand by 69 runs in Dublin

Karachi: Pakistan women cricket team recorded a convincing 69run victory against Thailand in ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier on Tuesday in Dublin.

Pakistan batted first in the match and put on board a competitive total of 1456 in allotted 20 overs. Nain Abidi scored 47 off 38 balls and was later declared player of the match. Nida Dar and Bismah Maroof also batted well scoring 26 and 25 respectively. C Sutthiruang and R Padunglerd captured two wickets each.

Thailand in response scored only 76 runs losing eight of their wickets in 20 overs. Sutthiruang top scored for the side with 19 runs. Sumaiya Siddiqi bowled well for the victors capturing a two wicket haul and giving away only four runs in four over. Asmavia Iqbal also captured a two wicket haul.

The team will now face their counterparts from Zimbabwe on Thursday.

Pakistan missed out on direct qualification, losing a tight playoff match to South Africa off the penultimate ball will and the team is now eying one of the three qualification spots, which this qualifier tournament offers.

The ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier began on Tuesday with host Ireland, Canada, Japan, Pakistan, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Zimbabwe fighting for three qualification spots to the ICC World Twenty20, to be held in Bangladesh in 2014.
