Sports: Squash: Aamir, Nasir move up in Int’l rankings

Karachi: After performing well in Kish Island in Iran last month, Pakistani players Aamir Atlas Khan and Nasir Iqbal has improved their rankings in new March Dunlop PSA Men’s World Squash Rankings published by the Professional Squash Association.

Aamir, seeded second in the tournament, won the USD 10,000 event and subsequently bettered his rankings with a 14place jump to 51st spot.

Youngster Nasir Iqbal, who was not even seeded in the tournament made it to the final only to be beaten by Aamir. Nasir improved his rankings by 12 places to occupy 69th spot to become Pakistan’s second top ranked player for the first time in his career.

Yasir Butt, who was the top ranked Pakistani player last month, fell 21 places from 59th spot to 80th position.

Farhan Zaman moved up four places to 91st spot while Danish Atlas Khan slumped two places down to 96th spot in the new rankings.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s Ramy Ashour and Englishman Nick Matthew strengthen their grip on the top two places, France’s Gregory Gaultier moves up to third position.

England’s James Willstrop slips to fourth place, whilst 22yearold Mohamed El Shorbagy moves up to a careerequallinghigh No5, ahead of fellow Egyptians Karim Darwish and Amr Shabana.
