RATODERO: The students who got admission in evening shift of Chandka Medical College CMC, Larkana, held protest demonstration and staged sit-in in front of Larkana Press Club here on Sunday against sudden closure of their classes by the Benazir Bhutto Medical University BBMU authorities.
The agitating students were also chanting slogans against BBMU and CMC authorities. The protesting students, Ihsanullah Bijarani, Aziz Chandio, Imtiaz Jakhrani, Fayaz Jalbani, Abdul Rauf and others told reporters that an advertisement was given by BBMU authorities for admissions in evening classes of MBBS and against that advertisement they along with others appeared in the written test and qualified for the admission.
They said that so far 65 students had been enrolled and classes of the same shift started in CMC which only continued for about one week and added that after that the classes were suddenly closed telling the students that Pakistan Medical & Dental Council had raised major objections against the evening shift classes, hence, all students should go home till the final decision by PM&DC.
They said that they had deposited all the required fees and even fee for the entry test was charged from them and the Vice Chancellor had assured them verbally that come what may evening classes would continue despite opposition by the PM&DC then why they had been stopped arbitrarily and added that this amounts to injustice to them for which the CMC & BBMU authorities are responsible and should be taken to task. They warned that if their classes are not resumed forthwith they will file petition in Sindh High Court to seek justice.
Director admission, BBMU, Dr. Waheed Memon, said that his job is to admit the qualifying students and nothing else and he is unaware of opposition by the PMDC. He further said that PMDC also approached the Sindh Government which ordered closure of the classes and the affected students should now approach the Sindh Government for restoration of the evening shift classes.
PMDC had raised serious objections over the start of these evening classes as saying that when morning shift teaching faculty is incomplete despite passage of 40 years, how evening classes are being started in CMC &and BBMU. Another serious problem faced by BBMU is that of the start of Bibi Aseefa Dental College which was started three years ago without permission of PMDC and it has not yet recognized BADC. Its dental students are in third year at present and if PMDC does not recognize BADC then the degrees of BADC will be of no use and the students will not be granted house job facility by Sindh government which is said to be must for gaining practical experience under senior doctor’s guidance.
