The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), which has been described as ‘visionless’ by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), said Tuesday that as many as dozen training camps of various sports had been established for preparing national athletes to take part in the South Asian Federation (SAF) Games to be held from January 10 next year in Guwahati and Shillong, India. We received a letter from the Pakistan Olympic Association on July 13 regarding participation of a Pakistan contingent in the SAF Games and we issued a letter on July 14 to concerned national federations to setup the camps and intimate the date of the commencement, venues and strength of camp trainees along with names of athletes, a spokesman for the PSB said. He said seven camps had started functioning in wrestling, wushu, athletics, weightlifting, handball, taekwondo and table tennis at PSB complex in Islamabad. Boxing camp is in progress in Karachi while cycling, karate and ju-jitsu camps have been established at PSB Coaching Centre Lahore with judo camp at PSB Coaching Centre Peshawar. He said three remaining camps for badminton, kabaddi and squash would start functioning soon.
