World Bank team for bolstering public private partnership projects

KARACHI: A high level delegation of the World Bank (WB) has stressed the need to bolster public private partnership in the city and other development projects. The delegation expressed this during a meeting with Karachi Commissioner at his office here on Tuesday. The meeting was also attended by University of California’s Professor David Dawall, Senior Manager Urban Development and Sanitation South Asia Region Ming Zhang, Senior Urban Specialist South Asia and Development Department Fatima Zahra Shah, Consultant WB Shoaib Athar and Additional Commissioner Karachi Dr Mansoor Abbas.

The Karachi commissioner said that Unified Development Agency or Organisation is our top priority for fast progress of Karachi because uplift works cannot be carried out timely and properly due to land control of this mega city being under control of different organizations.

The commissioner told the delegation that lack of authority was the big hindrance in the development works of the city, however, defence ministry could play vital role to remove such hindrance. Zaidi said that Karachi is an attractive and suitable city for foreign investors.

He said that the government was working on different projects under public private partnership, besides encouraging private secretary in this regard.
