Lahore: Provincial Minister for Zakat & Usher, Malik Nadeem Kamran has directed all the Divisional and District Zakat Officers to ensure distribution of Zakat, Guzara allowance, marriage grant and other financial amounts to the deserving persons timely.
He issued these instructions in a departmental briefing here. Secretary Zakat Jehanzeb Khan, Administrator Zakat Muhammad Yousuf and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
The Minister was told that as many as 24115 Zakat Committees are working in the province however, 305 committees are not functional due to various reasons upon which the Minister directed to meet up the required number of Zakat committees at every cost. He also constituted a monitoring committee, headed by Secretary Zakat, which will review all these matters and submit its report within fifteen days.
Provincial Minister directed Secretary Zakat to wind up the cases under hearing in courts regarding local Zakat committees and district committees so that distribution of zakat could be ensured to the deserving persons timely.
Malik Nadeem Kamran ordered to initiate the election process for filling the vacancies of eight Chairmen and sixteen Members District Zakat Committees. He said that recommendations for constitution of new Provincial Zakat Council should be sent soon. He said that the number of women members should be increased to 33% of the male members in the Zakat committees throughout the province.
Malik Nadeem Kamran further directed that divisional and district Zakat Officers should contact philanthropists, industrialists, presidents of chambers of commerce and other well to do persons to convince them to donate in the Zakat Fund for the needy people. He said that a system of giving financial assistance to blind persons from Zakat Fund was introduced first time in the provinces and as many as 8500 blind men and women were provided assistance from this fund, which was successful and it would be continued on permanent basis.
