Islamabad: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that agriculture is the back bone of the national economy and the present government has taken a series of measures to promote the agriculture sector in the country.
The Prime Minister said this during a meeting with Mr Ehsan Ul Haq, President Zarai Taraqqiati Bank Limited ZTBL and Mr. Zaka Ashraf, Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board PCB at the Prime Minister House on Monday.
Prime Minister said that PPP is a party which has always strived to protect the interests of farmers and the rural masses.
The Prime Minister said that pro-agriculture policies of his government have yielded positive results and today Pakistan is exporting wheat.
He said that provision of tractors to farmers on subsidized prices and increasing the support prices of the agricultural commodities and the recent approval by the cabinet for flat electricity rates for tube wells have improved the life and standard of poor farmers.
The President briefed the Prime Minister on issues pertaining to ZTBL.
